About Us
The Krentz Family
Welcome to Lakeshore Rabbitry. We are a small sized rabbitry, (40-50 holes), located in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. We overlook Lake Michigan which is how our name came about.
As a child I (Lisa) was involved in 4-H and started out raising New Zelands, Californians and Rex. As my interest in rabbits grew I became a member of WSRBA and showed rabbits around the state, and had alot of fun doing it. Sadly, I had to give them up when I went away to college.
It has been about 15 years since I last had rabbits but the desire to raise rabbits again was reignited by our two children, Kevin (7 yrs) and Julie (6 yrs). One day while at a local pet store my children spotted two single mane Lionheads for sale. They begged and pleaded for us to buy them each one. I must say that my husband Paul and I were very intrigued by their apperance, and he, being the softy that he is, couldn't say no and neither could I. So we left with two rabbits, and I left with many fond memories rekindled.
After owning these two sweethearts we knew that we wanted more and found two local breeders, Tammy Setzke and Kathy Feller. They got us on our way with our first 3 pedigree double mane Lionheads. Many thanks to these women for their support and knowledge of this rather new breed.
At the Sheboygan County Fair our daughter fell in love with another breed of rabbit. To make the story short, we went home with a Holland Lop buck and doe. There personalities are so intoxicating that we now have several more plus babies. This is a very competitive breed on the show table and maybe thats why we like them so much, it's a challenge, and theres always room for improvement. It's very satisfying knowing that by your selective breeding that you are improving your herd quality. Thats our goal, quality not quanitity just like with our Lionhead breeding program.
Kevin also has two purebred Mini Rex . I don't think we are going to be breeding them though, because we lack enough cage space. And at this point he is okay with that. We will have to wait and see if he gets bit by the rabbit bug once he starts showing.
Raising rabbits is a great family experience. We get to spend time together at shows while also making many new friends. But what we get the biggest kick out of has to be when the kids talk about their rabbits and they sound just like you.
Sincerely,
